A ductless or split heat pump may be an ideal addition to your home heated with oil. They are fairly inexpensive (starting around $1200) and very efficient at heating or cooliing an area. If you have stayed in a hotel room you have most likely used a ductless heat pump.

If you are like my family, we spend most of time in one room. Last year we added a split heat pump to keep this room warm in the winter and cool in the summer. By the middle of next year we will have saved enough money on our oil furnace to pay for the ductless heat pump.

For us it means that we turn the furnace off and leave it off until the middle of November. The Spilt heat pump keeps our main living areas warm.

Another ideal use for a split heat pump is when renovating or adding a new room to your house. Rather then getting a plumber in to extend your hot water baseboards to the new room, a ductless heat pump has more then enough capacity to heat a room.
